Pirinase (formerly known as Flixonase)

Pirinase is a nasal spray that treats all the symptoms an antihistamine tablet does and goes further to relieve that groggy congested feeling as well.

Pirinase contains a corticosteroid called fluticasone which treats the symptoms of hayfever and other airborne allergies.  And, used once a day, it can actually prevent symptoms from developing (with regular use). Pirinase is non-drowsy and available behind the counter in all pharmacies.

Pirinase is an intranasal corticosteroid (INCS) containing fluticasone propionate. This has an anti-inflammatory action and works in a similar way to natural body chemicals to control inflammation. This spray helps control your body's reactions to airborne allergens in the environment, such as pollen, mould spores, pet dander or dust mites.

Pirinase has a direct action to relieve allergy symptoms where they start, in the nose.

You can take Pirinase for the relief and prevention of airborne allergies including:

  • Pollen (hayfever)
  • Pet hairs
  • Dust mites
  • Mould spores

Pirinase Hayfever Nasal Spray is intended for adults (18+) only.

Why use Pirinase?

Antihistamines treat early phase symptoms (sneezing, itchy and runny nose, watery eyes) whereas Pirinase goes further to treat both the early phase and late phase symptoms (nasal congestion and blockage, blocked-up, groggy feeling).

Pirinase can be effective at treating the following symptoms:

- Sneezing

- Runny Nose

- Itchy, watery eyes

- Nasal Congestion/blockage

- Blocked-up, groggy feeling

No other hayfever treatment is more effective without prescription.

How can I prevent my symptoms from developing?

If you know you are going to come into contact with airborne allergens that may trigger your allergy you can use Pirinase in advance to help prevent symptoms from developing. For example, if you check the pollen forecast on Tuesday and see that the pollen count is going to be high in your area towards the weekend and you are going to be out and about, you can start to use Pirinase straight away to allow it to build up to full effectiveness.

Pirinase can take 3-4 days to build up to maximum effect.

How to use Pirinase

Just one daily dose can provide unbeaten relief for up to 24 hours. And because it's once a day spray you won't need to carry it around with you...just spray and go! Pirinase offers protection from airborne allergies throughout the day.

For maximum benefit make sure not to tilt your head or recline when taking Pirinase to avoid the spray dripping down the back of your throat.

The usual dose for adults aged 18years and over is 2 sprays into each nostril, once a day. If your symptoms get better try 1 spray into each nostril, once a day.

Do not use this nasal spray for more than 3 months continuously, without consulting a doctor.

Nasal spray myths

Myth 1 - Nasal Sprays only treat nasal symptoms

Lots of people think that nasal sprays are only for nasal symptoms - but with Pirinase this is not the case. Pirinase not only treats nasal symptoms but also the itchy, watery eyes and grogginess that are common symptoms of airborne allergies.

Myth 2 - Sprays are difficult to use

A lot of people think that sprays are difficult to use with a runny nose but the effectiveness of a spray can well be worth giving them a try. Pirinase goes further than antihistamine tablets to relieve more symptoms, including that groggy congested feeling. And, used once a day, Pirinase can actually prevent symptoms from developing.

Myth 3 - Tablets are the only treatment available

If you find that your current allergy treatment is not giving you the relief you need or you are still experiencing symptoms, Pirinase could be an alternative treatment option.
