Other airborne allergies can occur all year round and are caused by constant exposure to allergens such as pet dander, house dust mites, mould spores, and certain foods and chemicals.

The characteristic feature of skin allergies is red, bumpy, swollen or very itchy welts that form on the skin. Skin allergies can be triggered by a number of things, such as plants or cosmetics.

Urticaria or hives

This condition is characterised by raised red skin welts, also known as nettle rash. This rash may appear anywhere on the face or body and is accompanied by itching. It is caused by direct contact with the allergen or due to an immune response to a food substance.

Allergic contact dermatitis

Allergic contact dermatitis occurs when the skin comes in contact with a particular substance such as those found in household cleaners or cosmetics, or latex used in gloves and balloons. Different people are allergic to different substances.
